Retief Goosen has transformed himself from a good, competent pro golfer into a Major winner who is also European No 1 for this season.
He credits a lot of his success to Jos Vanstiphout, the Belgian psychologist with whom he's been working but, as in so many areas, amateurs do not have the time to put into practice all the physical and mental drills to improve to his level.
So if you want to take one mental tip onto the course, it is 'Concentrate'. That great teacher Harvey Penick used to express it as 'Take dead aim' which means, focus precisely on what you're trying to do.
Nick Price once told ScottishGolf that the one piece of advice he would give amateurs is: 'No matter what's happening in your life, when you're on the golf course you have to believe that for the 20 seconds before you hit the ball, making that shot is the most important thing in the world.'
